When you are going through a rough time, you want to talk to someone who will help you to feel comfortable and understood--someone who has the skills and experience to help you deal with the difficulties in your life, with insight, compassion and warmth.
Perhaps you have lost someone you love, your relationship is in trouble or your career is stalled. Perhaps you have experienced verbal or physical abuse. No matter who you are, at one time or another you will experience some kind of life crisis and you may find you need a little help to get back on your feet. It can be very helpful to talk to someone who can look at your situation objectively and help you see what you have been missing.
I bring over 30 years of experience to my work. I see myself as your consultant, and my role to help you identify what you need and give you effective tools and strategies to help you move forwards with confidence and renewed energy. If you are like many of my clients, you will find you not only feel better than you have ever have before--but you will have a new understanding of your goals, your gifts and your own personal journey.
I work with individuals and couples from all walks of life from teenagers to seniors. I help them cope with depression, anxiety, grief, abuse and trauma of all kinds. I also help couples and others who are dealing with issues in their relationships. My training in Emotion-Focused and Experiential Therapy gives me a wide palette of tools and techniques to help people understand and cope with the issues they are facing in all stages of their lives. I also have specialized training in trauma, so I use a number of very effective methods to help people heal from physical, emotional or sexual abuse.
In addition to my work as a therapist, I am actively involved in the arts as a writer, photographer, documentary film-maker and dancer, so I bring a creative approach to my work. Perhaps more importantly, I have a special understanding of the complexities faced by those who are creatively or intellectually gifted.
Researchers are only now coming to understand how isolating it can be to grow up gifted, and beginning to recognize that gifted people actually have special learning needs. Many of the people who come to work with me are artists, film-makers, writers and musicians who, in spite of their success, still feel blocked and struggle with a sense of isolation and poor self-esteem. If this describes you, I believe I have a special understanding of your struggle, and can help you overcome the blocks that prevent you from achieving your creative goals.
I also have an understanding of the issues, concerns and culture of the LGBTQ community. This can be particularly helpful in the area of non-traditional relationships. I provide a warm, non-judgmental approach for couples and those who follow a polyamourous life-style.
