Introduction
I work with clients using an emotion-focused, experiential approach called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). This innovative and evidence-based approach has been shown to lead to long-term change in a relatively short amount of time with a variety of issues such as: anxiety, depression, conflict in relationships at home or at work, difficulties forming attachments, medically unexplained symptoms or chronic pain, grief, stress or the after-effects of trauma. Clients often come to therapy feeling: "What I am going through is really tough, it is not getting better and the things I have tried haven’t worked."
We work together primarily with your emotions. This is talk therapy, but it goes beyond just talking about emotions. People sometimes describe emotions as happening just in their head. This kind of therapy deals with this by slowing things down so that you can start to join the dots between a specific situation, how your body reacts and what you are feeling,
Trial Therapy: The first session is 2- to 3-hours in duration (subsequent sessions are an hour). You set the agenda: we home in on a problem, something inside yourself that you would like to work on and we go from there. A longer session initially gives you a chance to experience some shift or sense of optimism about taking this route.
