Shirley Addison

I work with individuals who are dealing with a variety of concerns, including relationship issues and histories of interpersonal trauma; lack of motivation; depression &/or anxiety; difficulties with feelings; low self-esteem/self-confidence; and gender or sexual orientation issues. Therapy may also address difficulties managing life transitions; grief and loss; confusion related to personal meaning, direction and values; stress management; aging; and health & mental-health related symptoms. I believe a therapeutic relationship needs to be client-centred, warm, safe, supportive, non-judgmental, compassionate, interactive, and respectful.

My approach is based in Relational-Cultural Therapy, an interpersonal therapy that also explores the personal and relational impacts of culture and social position. My perspective is feminist, empowerment-focused, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed. Other psychotherapeutic approaches may be integrated, including time-limited or open-ended contracts.

We work together to expand your awareness, promote self-compassion, & make meaningful changes in your life. We explore how experiences throughout your life have shaped you, affecting your emotional well-being, nurturing or inhibiting your strengths, impacting your self-image & contributing to habits of self-protection that may now be adding to your distress.
