For the period July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

The OSRP is the only association in Ontario dedicated exclusively to RPs, keeping focus on our unique needs in the mental-health field.

We appreciate your continued membership and hope that you invite your colleagues to join us with a membership invitation! To send one of these out, we've also created an email template for your convenience.

As our association grows in numbers, so does our capacity to do more for RPs in communities across Ontario.

    Membership Bursaries

The financial cost of belonging to a professional association can put professional support, development, and community out of reach.

OSRP recognizes that economic marginalization under current social and economic conditions disproportionately impacts working class psychotherapists, students, and prospective members, limiting access to professional development, community, and participation in the field. When access is restricted by cost, it reinforces class inequality within the profession and weakens the collective capacity of psychotherapists.

    Financial Access Bursary

In response to economic marginalization under current social and economic conditions, OSRP has established an annual Financial Access Bursary in 2026 to support working class members, prospective members, RP(Q)s, and psychotherapy students facing economic hardship. The bursary will be awarded to a total of three recipients.

    BIPOC Membership Bursary

OSRP also continues its commitment as an anti-racist organization. We recognize there is a tremendous need for more BIPOC psychotherapists in Ontario. We are committed to helping make that happen!

Since 2021, OSRP has awarded bursaries to nine BIPOC members. This year, we have expanded our BIPOC Membership Bursary to support fifteen BIPOC RPs, RP(Q)s, and psychotherapy students.

This Bursary is open to the following OSRP membership categories:

    • Student Member
    • Qualifying Member
    • Clinical Member

Episode Review: Decolonizing Self in IFS

From the podcast Brown Girls Don’t Do Therapy with Diviya Lewis

Reviewer: Franklynn Bartol, Connect Chair & Qualifying Member of OSRP

Click here to listen to the episode: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/decolonizing-self-in-ifs/id1567102639?i=1000733926680

    Who Will I Hear?

Diviya Lewis (host and OSRP Clinical Member!) & her guest Alexis Kamakanoe Ornellas.

    What’s It About?

Two experienced IFS therapists reflect on the concept of Self in IFS therapy from a decolonial lens. They draw on examples from their client work and training experience to break down myths and misconceptions while offering alternative ways to think about the Self, whether with clients or your own decolonial healing journey.

    How Can It Help?

If you’re an IFS practitioner, this is a must-listen episode! It addresses core IFS concepts from a lens that is both appreciative of the approach and critically reflective of the ways that it’s taught and used. Rather than simply critique though, they offer a more expansive view of how we can use IFS concepts.

Even though I don’t personally practice IFS, I got a lot out of this discussion! It helped me further deconstruct Western-based ideas of ‘self’. I particularly liked the critical questioning they offer around ideals such as calmness and neutrality, which make their way into all sorts of therapeutic approaches and wellness advice. They each give powerful examples of how we can, however unintentionally, use our therapeutic concepts in harmful ways. As a way to combat this, or notice and repair when it happens, they also discuss how to foster more collaborative relationships with clients.

Why Does This Reviewer Love It?

The insightfulness, humility, and humour Diviya brings to this conversation is reflected throughout her series – I’d highly recommend checking out more episodes from Brown Girls Don’t Do Therapy!

Melissa has been practising psychotherapy for 20 years and brings a thoughtful, integrated approach to her work. Her toolkit includes CBT, DBT, EFT, SFT, Trauma Therapy, EMDR, and Integrative Relationship Therapy.

She shared that her own challenging adolescence set her on a personal healing path — and that psychology felt like a natural fit both for how she’s wired and for her deep interest in people’s inner worlds.

Melissa completed her undergraduate studies in psychology and worked in a juvenile sex offender facility in the U.S. before returning to Canada in 2010. She now lives and works in St. Catharines.

A passionate trauma therapist, Melissa continues to weave her lived experience into the support she offers clients. She’s also the proud (and busy!) mom of three daughters, ages 5, 7, and 16.

Outside of work, she loves reading — both fiction and books that deepen her understanding of psychotherapy. At the time we spoke, she was reading Fire on the Horizon by Wilbur Smith and Judgment Detox by Gabby Bernstein.

Melissa is currently accepting new clients and offers both virtual and in-person sessions. You can connect with her here:

Thank you, Melissa, for your dedication to the art and craft of psychotherapy — and for all you bring to this field with heart and presence.

    With love,

    Mahshad

    April 2025

Anastasia’s path to becoming a psychotherapist started when she was studying life sciences and psychology in her undergraduate degree. With a growing interest in psychology and healthcare, she gravitated towards supporting folks through talk therapy and pursued training in psychotherapy.

Anastasia works with individuals, couples and families, and has extensive experience supporting families impacted by addiction.

We spoke in depth about how, initially, as a psychotherapy trainee, she did not expect to work as much as she has with couples; however, couples work has now become the core of her practice.  Anastasia found her work as a couples therapist to be extremely rewarding and realized that the more directive approach required in this role sparked her interest in and aptitude for work as a clinical supervisor and mentor. She has now expanded her solo private practice to include another therapist. Her practice is called Hera Therapy, referring to Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage, and a nod to her Greek identity as well as primary focus on relationships.

She is currently accepting new clients (individuals, couples and families) both online and in-person on Fridays. Anastasia can be contacted via: https://www.heratherapy.ca/

Her office is in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood.

Thank you, Anastasia, for the wonderful conversation, it was a pleasure getting to know you and learning about your work.

    Sincerely,

    Alice
